The project encompasses several DOT-mandated pipeline replacements across Gaston, Lincoln, and Iredell Counties in North Carolina. These replacements were driven by class location changes resulting from residential growth, new subdivision development, and sliding mile criteria. The overall scope includes five work orders totaling approximately 12,000 linear feet (LF) of replacement on the Mainline A (MLA) and Mainline B (MLB) systems.
In Gaston County, the first segment (MP 1265) included the replacement of approximately 4,867 LF of 36-inch MLB pipe due to increased structure growth, extending from MP 1264.96 to MP 1265.88. The second segment (MP 1268) involved the replacement of 917 LF of 30-inch MLA and 988 LF of 36-inch MLB pipe, prompted by new subdivision development and Class 3 location upgrades.
In Lincoln County (MP 1276), approximately 1,253 LF of 30-inch MLA pipe was replaced due to sliding mile Class 3 growth. This segment required a bore under an active railroad crossing, necessitating specialized permitting and coordination with CSX.
In Iredell County, two additional segments were completed. At MP 1293, approximately 1,754 LF of 30-inch MLA and 1,778 LF of 30-inch MLB pipe were replaced as a result of sliding mile classification changes and new residential development. At MP 1296, 560 LF of 30-inch MLB pipe was replaced due to class changes associated with increased housing density.
These efforts were completed to maintain compliance with DOT pipeline safety regulations while reinforcing the integrity and resiliency of critical infrastructure in rapidly developing regions.
