The Pipeline Coater is responsible for applying protective coatings to pipeline surfaces to prevent corrosion and damage. This role involves surface preparation, coating application, and quality assurance in accordance with industry and safety standards.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare pipeline surfaces for coating using methods such as sandblasting, grinding, or chemical cleaning.
- Apply coatings such as epoxy, polyurethane, or fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) to pipelines using spray, brush, or roller techniques.
- Operate and maintain coating equipment, including pumps, mixers, and spray guns.
- Follow project specifications and manufacturer guidelines for coating thickness, cure time, and environmental conditions.
- Inspect coated surfaces for defects such as holidays, pinholes, or uneven coverage.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Document work completed, including batch numbers, environmental conditions, and quality checks.
- Work in coordination with inspectors and QA/QC personnel to ensure compliance with standards.
Qualifications/Special Knowledge Skills:
- Experience in underground utility locating or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and utility drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in marking underground utilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Knowledge of gas pipeline systems is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is often required to stand, walk, and use hands/fingers.
- Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
- Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Able to climb a minimum of 5 rungs of an extension ladder.
- Ability to travel to project sites that are typically within a 4-hour radius of the home office.
- Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards
