The Fleet Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily shop operations and supervising technicians performing maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment (Assets). This role ensures that preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), regulatory and company standards. The Fleet Supervisor acts as the first-line leader for the shop team, supporting uptime, safety, and productivity.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Daily Shop Oversight
- Supervises day-to-day shop activities to ensure timely completion of repairs and scheduled maintenance
- Assigns and prioritizes work orders, ensuring alignment with PM schedules, operational needs, and safety requirements
- Monitors workflow to meet fleet asset readiness timelines and minimize downtime
Team Leadership & Support
- Leads and supports a team of technicians, including scheduling, coaching, and task supervision
- Trains new technicians in standard operating procedures (SOP), tools, safety expectations, and diagnostics
- Promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Maintenance Quality & Compliance
- Ensures all work performed meets OEM specifications, company standards, and regulatory compliance (Federal/State/Local)
- Reviews completed work orders for accuracy and thorough documentation
- Maintains tool control, parts inventory oversight, and fleet asset inspection readiness
Safety & Shop Environment
- Enforces company safety policies and industry best practices, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Maintains a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment
- Addresses and escalates safety or compliance issues promptly
Communication & Coordination
- Reports status updates, challenges, and needs to the Fleet Manager
- Coordinates with operations to align fleet asset availability with project requirements
- Supports third-party vendor interactions as needed
Education/Experience:
Education & Certification
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Technical or vocational training in diesel or automotive repair
- Desired: CDL, State Inspection License, FMCSA Brake Inspector Certification
Experience:
- Required: 3+ years of experience in vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair
- Preferred: 1+ year in a lead or supervisory role
- Desired: Experience in construction or utility fleet operations
Technical & Functional Skills:
- Strong mechanical knowledge of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
- Familiarity with Fleet Management systems
- Capable of reading schematics, using diagnostic tools, and managing repair documentation
- Understanding of regulatory compliance standards (DOT/FMCSA/STATE/OSHA)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365

Physical Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Sit, stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear regularly with occasional lifting up to 75 pounds
- Be exposed to indoor/outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, fumes, and noise
- May require occasional travel between nearby job sites or shop locations
- Company laptop, and phone will be provided
